IAMRA eNews October 2025

17 Oct 2025 3:43 PM | Anonymous

Dear Leaders and Colleagues,

Welcoming new IAMRA Directors

I am delighted to welcome Dr. Muhannad Almughtim, Standards Manager at the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, and Dr. Ainslie Mihalchuk, CEO of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba, as the newest members of the IAMRA Board of Directors.

Both were elected at the Members’ General Assembly in Dublin, Ireland, on September 5, 2025: Dr. Almughtim as Regional Director – Asia, and Dr. Mihalchuk as Non-Regional Director.

Their leadership and expertise will be invaluable as we continue advancing IAMRA’s purpose and achieving our vision that everyone around the world is treated and cared for by safe and competent doctors. I look forward to their contributions and perspectives on the Board and in shaping the future of IAMRA.

Strengthening Global Patient Safety and Mitigating Risk to Regulators

On behalf of the Board, I am again urging all IAMRA Members to immediately and actively engage with the Physician Information Exchange (PIE) – a vital platform to enhance global collaboration and ensure that patient safety transcends borders.

Why This Matters Now

A recent international investigation by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) and 48 media partners across 46 countries has exposed critical vulnerabilities in our global regulatory system. “Bad Practice: How Doctors Jump Borders to Leave Troubling Pasts Behind” reveals how physicians evade accountability by exploiting gaps in cross-border communication.

The investigation concludes: "The mechanisms in place for regulators across the world to share information regarding disciplinary action or criminal sanctions clearly need urgent review to protect patients."

Call to Action

IAMRA's PIE is identified as a key solution, enabling members to:

  • Share critical information about physicians who have made fraudulent applications or faced significant sanctions
  • Search entries when assessing applicants, identifying sanctioned physicians before they enter your jurisdiction

Every entry submitted and search conducted strengthens our global network and prevents physicians with troubling histories from entering your jurisdiction undetected.

Upcoming Webinar

IAMRA will host a webinar in early November to demonstrate how the PIE mitigates regulatory risks, showcase real-world benefits from current users, and provide practical guidance on how to include PIE in your regulatory processes. Full details will soon be available at IAMRA.com.

IAMRA Members’ participation with PIE is essential. Patient safety and regulatory credibility depend on our collective action.

Access the PIE through the members-only section of the IAMRA website. For assistance, please contact Sarah Heermans at secretariat@iamra.com.

Warm Regards,

Nicole Krishnaswami, JD

IAMRA Chair
